Simple Ways to Make Your Bathroom Look Bigger

Do you have a small bathroom? If so, you will want to do as much as possible to open up the space and make it look bigger.

You may be shocked by how much you can manipulate the appearance of any space and room. At the moment, you may be committing design mistakes that are actually making your bathroom look smaller. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the different ways you can open up your bathroom and make it look at lot bigger than it is.

Add a bigger mirror – One of the easiest ways to make your bathroom look bigger than it is, is to add a bigger mirror. You can get a mirror that is the perfect size for your bathroom by choosing cut to size mirrors. This will enable you to make the most of the wall space that is available to you. The reason mirrors make a room look bigger is quite simple: light reflects off the surface and bounces back into the room.

Let there be light – This moves onto the next point quite nicely: the more light you can get into your bathroom, the bigger it will appear. Of course, natural daylight is always best, but it is a challenge to get more natural daylight into any room in the home. This is why it is a good idea to use a mixture of lighting options to create the perfect setting and ensure that you are not merely relying on one harsh overhead light in your bathroom.

Use clear glass for your shower enclosure – Another way to make your bathroom feel bigger than it is, is to opt for clear glass as opposed to textured glass. If you choose the latter, it can almost make your bathroom feel like it has hit an extra wall. Yes, there is the benefit of more privacy, but it creates a visual barrier, which only makes the space look and feel smaller.

Take the tiles in the shower up to the ceiling – You may not have noticed, but so many builders seem to stop tiling one tile above the ceiling. They will then trim out the edge of the tile using bullnose edges. It’s surprising really, when it probably costs more money than taking the tiles all the way up to the ceiling. Not only this, but taking the tiles right to the top will make your bathroom look more expansive, as there are fewer transitions and less contrast.

Keep everything the same value / colour / tone as much as possible – Your bathroom will seem a lot smaller if you have light tiles and dark walls. This is because it chops the space up.

So there you have it: some of the most simple and effective ways to make your bathroom look bigger than it is. Follow the advice that has been suggested above, and you should have no trouble creating a bathroom that looks spacious and welcoming.
