“What Katy did next”, actually Katy isn’t my real name, but my family seem to have tagged the title to me. No, not due to my remarkable similarity to the notorious Katie Price, more due to my inability to find a career, job, past time that I manage to stick to for more than 5 minutes. Infact butterfly springs to mind. Believe me I have tried so many random things I could write a book! Now there’s a thought. Actually writing is one of my current persuits.
I haven’t always been like this. In fact following school I trained as a nurse, passed my exams, got a job for a year and then all of a sudden wham! I was left with a feeling that there must be something else. I went to Uni for six months and decided I didn’t want to be a radiographer either. I then spent the next nine years managing services for adults with disabilities and autism, this kept me busy, it was hard work, but was enjoyable. In 2001 my first son was born and then in 2004 my second son. It soon came apparent that I was “all care’d out” I started to resent leaving my children for long periods when working shifts to look after others. Sounds really selfish, but it just wasn’t working. I was lucky enough to be able to go part time and then stopped altogether when I registered as a childminder.
In addition to the above I have been an Avon representative, sold Usborne books, Phoenix cards, sold on ebay, trained as a reflexologist, started a writing course (current) and had a go at starting a maternity hire business.
Gosh it looks really bad when wriiten down. Goals for the future? To be sucessful in my search for a career that fits around my family. Possible future plans? To train as a beauty therapist ( a bit random, but thought it may be flexible and enjoyable working with people again). To be sucessful as a freelance writer, I have had a couple of articles published so far. I also feel I would like to become a counsellor.
So there you have it, the mixed up ramblings of a thirty something mum from Yorkshire. What will Katy do next? Who knows… Maybe writing this blog will help.
