We were recently sent a lovely book and sticker bundle from Mardles to review. The book and stickers are interactive with the help of an app.
We have never had the pleasure of reviewing an interactive book that requires an app before, so we were interested to find out what was required.
To make the book interactive we downloaded the Mardles app, which is available on app store, google play and amazon. The process was very easy.
The book itself is lovely and colourful and it is of a rhyming nature. There are certain pages within the book which features a magic wand. When you point your phone at the page (with the app open) the page springs to life. It was actually quite impressive, as you can move the camera angle in order to explore the scene.
The 3D nature of the effect was hard to photograph, you need to experience it in real life! We had lots of fun exploring the pages in 3D and reading the story.
We then hit a bit of a blip and I’m not sure if it was our fault by pressing the wrong settings somehow, or if it was the app itself. Anyway everything turned upside down! We then spent a hilarious ten minutes or so exploring the scene from the angle of being upside down – rather like a bat – the girls thought it was very funny!
We were also sent a bundle of stickers, which caused a little argument between the twins as they both wanted the mermaid sticker, however once sorted we realised that the stickers are also interactive with the app, albeit upside down!
I’m going to reinstall the app, which I’m sure will rectify the problem!
In our opinion the book stickers and app would be ideal for travelling and would be a great way to entertain children on long flights. The app once downloaded doesn’t need an internet connection, so is ideal for when your phone is on flight mode. Also it won’t eat up your data!
