If lockdown has allowed anything, it has given me time to focus on my health and wellbeing. Time in the garden (albeit enforced) has allowed me to slow down and take a look at the world from a different perspective. I spend my whole life rushing around, getting to places, sorting out the kids (who knew giving birth means that you are now your child’s personal PA – forever?), working on uni assignments, cooking meals, washing … As much as I love it (mostly), is there another way? I think as the restrictions are now being lifted, we are all contemplating what the new normal will be or could be.
I have a number of dilemmas on the horizon. I am nearing the end of my Birth and Beyond Foundation degree with NCT, which means I qualify as a birth educator in September. I have courses booked, which is a little daunting as a new practitioner, but also exciting. I really love supporting parents through their parenting journey. I also have a place to study level 6 from September, which is integrated working with families and children, meaning I’ll have an honours degree. Also, I have an interview in July for a return to nursing course, I’ve been out of nursing so long, here lies another daunting prospect! Once a nurse always a nurse and I’ve felt a bit useless during the pandemic as I haven’t been able to offer my skills, which I trained 3 long years for. I’ve always felt that I will go back to nursing at some point, is the right time now?
One thing is for sure, I won’t be able to do it all, so which pathway to take. Fingers crossed for some divine intervention. Has anyone any advice? I would suggest that “parents to be” use the BRAIN decision making tool, perhaps I should practice what I teach?
All these dilemmas then pose the question, do I really want to rejoin the rat race? Hence today’s decision of joining up to be a Neals Yard Remedies Organic Consultant. Fabulously ethical company with amazing soil certified products. Is it a viable work from home option, which could link into my birth educator role? Could I restart my copywriting role and have lots of little self employed income streams? Who knows, but I can’t wait for my kit to arrive. Watch this space …
Back to my other role of homeschooling the kids! Improper fractions, Lovely!
Ooh almost forgot, I now have my own “new today” Neals Yard Remedies Organic Consultant Website
Exciting, if confusing times.
